Season by season
Dry season (May–October)
Blue skies, low humidity and reliably clear sunsets over Mount Agung. This is the best time for the coast road, for day trips and for smooth crossings in the morning. July and August bring the most visitors, though Senggigi itself is never crowded.
Wet season (November–April)
Afternoon and overnight downpours, lush green hills and full waterfalls inland. Mornings are often fine. Some days are lost to rain in January and February, and hotel rates are at their lowest.
Sea conditions & crossings
The channel between Bangsal and the Gilis is short and usually calm before noon. The open-sea boats from Bali are another matter and are cancelled most often from December to February. West-coast beaches have their heaviest shore break in the wet season.

Festivals & events
- Perang Topat at Pura Lingsar (usually November or December): Hindus and Wetu Telu Muslims pelt one another with rice cakes in a joyful ritual for rain and fertility.
- Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr: many local restaurants close in daylight during the fast, though hotels and tourist places serve as usual; transport is very busy around Eid.
- Senggigi Festival (dates vary, some years in the dry season): parades, Sasak music and stick-fighting displays on the main street.
- Nyepi (usually March): observed quietly by Lombok’s Balinese community with processions the evening before; Lombok does not shut down, but there are no boats or flights from Bali that day.
- MotoGP at Mandalika (typically around September or October): hotels island-wide, including Senggigi, fill and prices jump for the race weekend.
Our advice
Any time from May to October is easy. If you come in the wet season, plan to cross to the islands in the morning and keep a flexible day for anything involving the Bali fast boats. Check the Mandalika race calendar before booking: that one weekend changes prices across Lombok. See when to go for the whole region.
