About Gili.com

An independent guide to the Gili Islands, organised the way people actually travel them — one island at a time, with the boats and the mainland in between.

What this site is

Gili.com is a travel portal for the Gili Islands — Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air, off the north-west coast of Lombok in Indonesia — and for the places most visitors pass through or add on. Instead of one long list of sights, it is built from eight destination guides: the three islands, Senggigi and the Lombok harbours, Mount Rinjani, Kuta Lombok and the south, the Secret Gilis, and the departure points in Bali. Each has its own pages for tours and tickets, things to see, getting there, practical advice and seasons. Region-wide pages help you choose an island and cover fast boats and getting there, island-hopping, getting around without motor vehicles, the practicalities of entry, money and safety, seasons, itineraries, diving and snorkelling, history, culture and the 2018 earthquakes and where to stay.

How we work

  • Facts are hedged on purpose. Boat timetables, fares, harbour fees and entry rules here change often. We give approximate figures to help you plan and say “about” or “around” when we mean it; always confirm details with the boat operator, the authorities or your accommodation before you travel.
  • Tours are real listings. Every tour and ticket we feature is an actual GetYourGuide product that we checked in October 2026, with the rating and review count shown at that time. Where GetYourGuide’s range is thin — on Gili Meno, for instance — we say so rather than padding the page, and we label clearly any product that starts on a neighbouring island.
  • Hotels are chosen for location and reviews. We list a few well-rated hotels per destination with their Trip.com guest scores. We do not show prices, because they change daily.
  • We are honest about the awkward subjects. Horse-cart welfare, touts at Bangsal, rough crossings, adulterated alcohol and the 2018 earthquakes are part of the picture, and we cover them plainly.
  • Photographs are freely licensed. All images come from Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons or public-domain terms and are credited on our image credits page.

How the site is funded

The site is free to use and carries no display advertising. It is supported by affiliate commissions: if you book a tour through a GetYourGuide link or a hotel through a Trip.com link on these pages, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. Our affiliate disclosure explains this in full.
